Wearing White At Night

Up until only recently I had always thought of white as more of a day colour, due to it’s light and fresh aesthetic. With the exception of the time I purchased clogs, this has to be one of my most foolish, fashion faux pas. Get up to date with a blanc dress code, and see why you need a LWD (little white dress) as part of your evening wardrobe.

Whether you’re attending Diner en Blanc, or an intimate date with the bae, there’s no denying that a simple white frock looks incredibly striking against a starry sky. What I love about wearing white, is the endless versatility of styling such a neutral colour with options like monochrome, tonal, pastel or chrome.

As for me, I’m going for glam, by teaming this fitted Honey & Beau Isabella Dress with a pair of two-toned, open toe stilettos, a sequin encrusted clutch and a combination of gold and pearl jewellery.

While being a little more high maintenance than darker hues, I recommend in keeping to clear liquids like Cristal, and being very careful with your dinner etiquette. After all, earing your food on a crisp white canvas is never ok!

I’m having major 90’s flashbacks, seeing denim dresses back in style! If like me, you grew up as a 90’s child, you’ll remember teaming your denim frock with glittery jellies and transparent sunglasses – two absolute staples for the fashion forward decade.

Here’s a few little tips for styling this summer essential!

1. I’m noticing many denim dresses feature the off the shoulder design this season, which is perfect for those hotter Queensland temps. My biggest tip for this style, is to go light with the handbag – swap the tote for a petite cross body bag to drape gently over your shoulder.

2. Forget the jellies and the 90’s platforms, loafers and brogues are the summer footwear of choice! I’m loving just about anything from a perforated leather loafer, to a woven flatform. For something a little more feminine, you can’t go wrong with a espadrille or a block heel sandal.

3. Given the casual nature of this dress, you’ll want your hair and makeup to resonate the same effortless vibe, so try a relaxed style like tousled curls, or the trending wavy hair with straight ends. Totally obsessed with the latter!

4. For someone with sensitive eyes, I find sunglasses to be not only an absolute necessity, but a real talking point from a styling perspective. Now’s the time to invest in a classic, timeless style – like my trusty Karen Walkers. They have served me well in the last two years, and their tortoise shell frame is still on trend.

How To Get Over Toned Pastel Hair

I’ve been making boysenberry hair my signature since 2015, and I’m not about to change my lavender locks anytime soon! If you are ready to add a touch of pastel to your main mane without making a trip to the salon, then here’s what you need to know!

I just want to preface this little read by saying that I am not hairdresser, nor an expert on hair, however, I am using a salon recommended product to achieve my over toned pastel hair – a De Lorenzo Rosewood Shampoo to be exact.

Most blondes will be familiar with toning products, and similar to any purple based shampoo, the De Lorenzo Rosewood Shampoo reduces brassy shades of blonde, while reflecting pastel, lavender hues. But the best thing about this shampoo, is that you can control the intensity of your over toned tresses. For my lilac locks, I leave this product on for a good 2-3 minutes to create a soft, pastel shade. However, if your hair is more statement then subtle and you’re after a more striking, violet hue, then you’ll want to let this shampoo simmer for 5+ minutes.

Before you start dreaming about unicorn hair, here’s a few little tips and tricks from a fellow unicorn queen.

Tips:

  1. Apply Rosewood shampoo with a paintbrush to ensure a consistent pastel tone throughout your tresses.
  2. Combine with regular shampoo for a more subtle effect.
  3. Repeat as necessary, as this pastel finish will fade and wash out in time.
  4. Wash hands immediately after use, as this toner will stain your nails (trust me, I’ve learnt the hard way!)
  5. When using throughout hair extensions, do lather and emulsify with water as quickly as possible to avoid patchy pastel shades.
  6. Do continue to condition hair as per normal, for a silky shiny mane.

Tricks

  1. Don’t emulsify the product when washing your own hair, as this breaks down the colour of the product.
  2. Don’t use an exfoliating or deep cleanse shampoo after using the De Lorenzo Rosewood Shampoo as this will dull the colour.
  3. Wash product thoroughly out of hair.

There’s nothing quite as fresh, as the clean lines seen in a stripe print, especially when the print involves a classic, neutral colour scheme like navy and white. I’ve been living in this little number all season – having styled it with a denim jacket on particularly cool days, or leaving it to it’s own devices and teaming it with neutral accessories.

Of course it was the perfect choice on this particular morning, which called for coffee in the mid morning sunshine. Styling with a little pair of tan ankle boots and a matching floppy hat, I’m really loving it’s effortless, casual vibe and relaxed fit – the perfect weekend outfit!
