Bacchus Melbourne Cup High Tea

As any fashionista will tell you, the Melbourne Cup is more than just a horse race! It is a day to dress up and attempt to outdo Princess Kate’s hat collection. It’s your moment to place bets like your rockafella and to swoon over the gorgeous Tom Waterhouse. My day certainly ticked all the afore mentioned boxes and was celebrated at a decadent high tea held at Bacchus Rooftop Bar.
Feeling like a modern-day Audrey Hepburn, I wore a lemon sorbet coloured dress by French Connection. The structure of this dress was beautifully detailed, cinching at the waist and falling into a concertina pleated skirt. I teamed this pastel piece with monochromatic accessories featuring my stunning floral fascinator by Mekoe Accessories and pony-haired Jo Mercer points. My darling friend Ally looked super sleek and sophisticated in a monochromatic shift dress with hot pink features. Our colour palette certainly complimented one another!
Being one of my favourite hotspots, Bacchus was beautifully decorated with fresh orchids, red roses and bone china high tea stands. We were treated to sparkling champagne, fruity cocktails and an array of petite, brightly coloured french pastries, desserts and savoury snacks. The day was hosted by the talented duo, Jake and Elle Harrison, grand finalists of the My Kitchen Rules 2012 showdown. Jake and Elle were super friendly, chatting and posing for photos with the guests and narrating the official Bacchus Fashion on the Field. The tension heightened as we all tuned in to watch the race on the big screen. Did my horse win? No, he did not and although Brown Panther implies speed and agility- these attributes remain to be seen. Despite this, our day was nothing short of spectacular!

The Brisbane Designer Fashion Show has been circled in my calendar for months and the lead up to it was nothing short of fabulous! Receiving my VIP front row tickets and finding I would be sitting with two lovely Brisbane bloggers, Yolanda from BNEstyle and Amber from Fashion Avenue, I knew we three would have a fabulous time pointing out our favourite runway pieces and favourite fashion faux pas. I have to say, I was super impressed with the line up of emerging and established Australian designers; from glittering sequinned masterpieces to bold, structured staples, I left the event with a new found inspiration and an extensive fashion wish list…Lucky Christmas is just around the corner. Spending our sunday surrounded by sunlight glistening through jungle trees, amongst brightly coloured flora and fauna- otherwise a twilight sanctuary for us Brisbane creatives. Caught in a beautiful spring breeze and watching our exquisite silk kimonos from Lisa’s Closet flutter, made me feel free, peaceful- rich in natural beauty and happiness. In an attempt to capture Bohemian hearts, Jemma and I are wore relaxed pastel and fruity colours, playful pieces from Vigari Fashion. A love of multi- texture was seen through the layering of chiffon and silk, which was garnished with crystal and silver trinkets from Hunter Gatherer. Our wild spirited nature was abundant, from our curly, untamed fishtail braids and soft, natural makeup. We were one with the earth, happily lost in the beautiful garden…The Garden of Freedom.
