Khaki…not an easy colour to feature as the main focus of an outfit, but when teamed with tans, black and chocolate browns, the colour creates a lovely warm, earthy aesthetic.  A return is seen of those shiny, patent boots of which I admire, creating a very military feel with the khaki. Military is once again a key trend this A-W 13/14, and my advice is to be brave and embrace it.

Style Tip: Remember, when styling a military inspired look, avoid an outfit comprised of only heavy pieces. Tone down the seriousness with a pop of bright coloured accessory, or a relaxed, floppy hat. Not only will this add some light to the colour palette, but it will also make the ensemble look and feel more personalised.

Stumbling across this desolate, run down space, I felt it most appropriate to use this to my advantage as a great visual background, complementing the military ensemble. Not to mention, the sunshine created a warm and inviting environment for myself and Brisbane blogger, The Fringe to escape the indoor winter chill and build a natural tan. Check out her stylish musings and pay her blog a visit at Love, The Fringe. Until then….at ease!

Smoke on the winter…

Smoke on the Winter

With a trip to Sydney booked, I am starting to collect my favourite winter pieces to grace the fashion focused city. I’m not sure whether I’m more excited for the shopping, or a chance to wear this perfect smokey shaded Marcs Italian Melton Coat. For all you fashionista’s who experience a chilly winter season, I am truly jealous! Living in the sunshine state equates to non-existant winters. We may be blessed with beautiful summers but our winters are not exactly suitable for trench coat wear.

For all my fabulous readers, I would like to know what trends do you miss out on due to location?

Feeling a little nostalgic as I upload the remainder photos from my nautical shoot with N.East Photography and Blossom Headpieces & Accessories. I am still lusting like crazy for the black on black ensemble and Raspberry and Cream Crown. A little creme de la creme is further added to the wish list, consisting of Mascotte’s red ankle booties and Cotton & Co’s double and single stranded pearl bracelets.

Presenting the Blossom Headpieces & Accessories’s Nautical Shoot- where setting sail is hot on trend. Featuring treasures from the new headwear range, Blossom Headpieces & Accessories are showcasing nautical colours including navy, red, cream and black as the seasonal winter shades. The floral arrangement of the nautical range includes classic blooms of roses and peonies, thereby keeping femininity a consistent theme amongst the collections.

The Blossom story begins with head designer and Brisbane fashionista, Adrienne Grace Keller who draws her inspiration from the bridal beauty of Elizabeth Taylor. The glamourous 50’s style icon, was pictured on her wedding day wearing a decadent floral crown, an image Adrienne still idolises. While a picture might be worth a thousand words, only four became apparent to Adrienne which would ignite a new business venture: Blossom Headpieces & Accessories.

Today, I cannot help but admire the craftsmanship of the beautiful wreaths that present as the statement piece within the shoot. If I had to pick a favourite, it would have to be the red and cream crown which added vibrance to a classic black ensemble. Outside of the shoot, this headpiece would be a fantastic accessory for a day at the races or dressy occasion. For the entire collection visit the Blossom Headpiece & Accessories website or Facebook page.

An enviable wardrobe was provided by Vigari Fashion, an edgy boutique located in Stones Corner, Brisbane. Stocking seasonal trends, jewellery and accessories, Vigari is the perfect stop for a taste of new seasonal style. Stylist and store owner Eleni compiled each look favouring structured cuts, luxe leather, cute prints and bright coloured staples. Her keen eye for fashion has regenerated the nautical trend featuring new seasonal pieces including a printed anchor knit, a stripy tunic, a monochrome high waisted skirt and a babydoll dress. Visit the Vigari Website and Facebook page for all stock, or visit in store for a friendly service and a creative vision by Eleni.

Judging my previous postings, it comes as no shock that I am an avid lover of Cotton & Co Jewellery. The beautiful pearl pieces and minted coin pendants became a prominent feature of the nautical trend, in the form of delicate bracelets, statement neckpieces and a dazzling ring. My favourite piece, an Italian made curb chain on which hangs a large coin pendant. Interestingly, this coin is a 1937 Crown, the same rare piece issued for the coronation of King George VI. Who knew history could be so glamourous? Visit the Cotton & Co website and Facebook page for the entire collection.

Finally, an outfit is not complete until garnished with accessories. Mascotte shoes & accessories is known for their high profile, quality and innovative products. Imagine my excitement to feature pieces from their AW13-14 collection in this nautical shoot. I felt like a young Carrie Bradshaw as I selected my hearts desires, (in this case classic pumps, statement handbags and clutches). As I am partial to suede fabric, I loved my choices of a cobalt suede pump, a red suede ankle boot and a black suede pump with taupe trimmings.  These were of course paired with matching bags to complete the look. To see a full range of the Mascotte collection visit the Mascotte website and Facebook page.

Ahoy and thank you to all those who contributed to the shoot including Blossom Headpieces & Accessories, Vigari Fashion, Cotton & Co, Mascotte Shoes & Accessories, Rose Moffat MUA and N.East Photography.
