For years, my childhood dream was to be a mermaid like Ariel, albeit her ungrateful plea to become human was something I really couldn’t understand. Who wouldn’t love to live in a castle, sea bound wearing sea shells and coral accessories and sing about washed up treasure in a secret cove? With no Sea Witch to request a mermaid tale from, I guess I have to improvise with teal, metallics, sequin embellished pencil skirts and luxe, leather bustiers. It’s like all of a sudden Brisbane finally belongs at the cool kids table now that the bright, shiny Topshop Topman doors have opened. On Wednesday evening, I joined a select group of Brisbanites including celebs, bloggers, models, stylists and pr gurus, for an exclusive sneak peek of the brand new Topshop Topman store and its newest summer collection. Three levels, a four hundred head count and one giant shoe wall later, I found myself in a sweat (literally, where was the air-con at?) with the excitement of endless shopping opportunity, sharing this moment with the Brisbane elite. My highlights of the evening included a friendly chat with Ben from Big Brother 13, snapping the beautiful Isabelle Cornish and her beau and some much needed shopping with the blogger posse.

Queen of the Sea

Standing cliffside watching the grey skies and a brewing storm- powerful in solitude, I’m queen of the sea! Wearing a Sportsgirl kaleidoscope patterned dress and Jo Mercer summer platforms, this summery ensemble is perfect for a seaside adventure.

Although pensive by the water and mesmerised by the fauna, inside I’m super excited to be collaborating with Ryan Salisbury Photography (RSP), a young Brisbane creative. An established professional in the events and music industry and real estate photography, Ryan envisions capturing natural beauty within the fashion landscape. Finding the perfect balance between light and shade while experimenting with interesting compositional techniques, Ryan sculpts a hauntingly beautiful scene depicting my visionary seaside monarchy. Looking as luxe as ever, Jessica Tovey and Moi.

There were celebrations to be had as the bloggers, stylists, photographers and fashionistas gathered to watch the final round of the 2013 Fashion Fridays at Capulet Bar yesterday. I was super excited for my three favvy Brisbane designers; Jessica Tovey with her bold self titled label, Jaye Wolfe with her vintage pretties of Fabled and True and Lexi Wittke of the classic, feminine label, Evelyn Curtis. Each of the afore mentioned labels, resonates a different tone in my fashion palette. To relate to only one of these labels and vote for one soul winner is a difficult task, as I love leather luxury items (Jessica Tovey The Label), adore floral patterns (Fabled and True) and crave floaty, feminine, structure (Evelyn Curtis).

Having missed two of the four heats, I was so impressed to see the other finalists and was wowed by the innovations of Flynn and Undral. Attending the recent Brisbane Designer Fashion Show, it was lovely to experience for the second time, the brightly coloured pieces from LIPOA Threads and the sequinned embellishment of Hoskin Designs. Finally, through a whimsical and colourful collection by I Found Lucy, I longed to be transported into a mystical wonderland, wishing I could slip on one of the super cute bow detailed pieces and escape down a rabbit hole.

I was pleased to hear that Fabled and True won the Fashion Fridays competition with Flynn receiving a prize for being the runner up. A huge congratulation goes out to all the competing labels as I have never been so impressed and inspired by emerging Brisbane Creatives.
